31st March – A Catch Up

Hey All, hope these times aren’t weighing too heavily on you.

I keep having mood swings, nothing bad, nothing to worry about, just enough to make me not bother with stuff. Unfortunately this blog being one of them. So what I’ve decided is this, I’m not going to put you good people through my mood swings, we all have enough to deal with as it is, instead, I shall write ‘catch-up’ posts when the mood is lighter. Today is a lighter day πŸ™‚

My mum’s birthday has been and gone, and we surprised mum by calling her on the family wassap, so then everyone was there, on the screen, singing happy birthday to her! She loved it! And on from that, my mum, sister and I have started having a cup of tea together and just catching up. That in itself has done us the world of good. We might not be able to hug, but we can still see each other on our little phone displays πŸ™‚

Mum also really appreciated her token pressies, bringing a few much needed laughs! My sister and I both had similar ideas, Chelle bought mum loo roll and a loaf of bread (along with an iphone set of earplugs).

We got the following for mum…

Face masks, body scrum, nail varnish, posh hand creams (for a bit of self care), puzzle book (for boredom), chocs and small wine (cos it’s her birthday!) shortbread (no explanation needed), and peas pudding (because for some unknown reason mother loves it, despite the fact it’s disgusting! And I could truly say ‘Mum, I saw this and thought of you!’)

Good news, mum seems to have come out the other side of what we all believe was Covid-19. For anyone else also suffering, my mum’s illness followed as such.

Monday 16th pm – Mum had a slight cough

Tuesday 17th am – Mum advised she had a temperature as well (she down played this, should have said fever)

Steadily got better – extreme tiredness

Tuesday 24th am – Mum had a bad night, burning up but unable to stop shivering, massive headache.

Thursday 26th – Temperature started to stay down

Friday 27th – morning temperature fine without paracetamol, still drained but ok.

Continuous improvement.

Was fine on our wassap video calls Sunday and yesterday.

Until Mum had it, I had no idea this thing could come in two bouts, if that is what this is of course!

Our work place has now started furloughing people and reducing hours of the rest. At present us three haven’t heard anything, I don’t think they can furlough us, but they could reduce our pay/hours – we’ll wait to see what happens… of course, they’ve probably forgotten we exist… Not a bad thing πŸ˜€

So that represents all my news! interesting eh πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Now on to some info.

Exercising:

So I am not exercising at the moment, there is nothing to stop me, I do have a never-ending monthly and associated pains, but if i was to say this was stopping me, I would be lying! It is not that bad!

Last week was good, I got up every day bar Friday and did exercises, and Paul and I did go for a couple of walks, this week… Shambles!

I’m not worrying about this, I know I’ll lose my fitness levels, slight though they are, but I also know I can build it back up. And more importantly, I know I will build it back up.

Sleep:

I’m not monitoring this so much at the moment, however I am taking advantage of working from home and have this week got up later than usual, giving me a chance for more rest. I actually do feel quite good for the extra bit of sleep I’m getting.

Fluids:

Shambles! teas, pepsi max, some milk, some pineapple juice, alcohol (4 glasses over weekend!) NO water! maybe fluids will be my mini target these next few days.

Food:

I’m quite pleased with the food, we’ve managed to keep quite healthy, using 150ml fruit juice a day and tinned fruits to bump up our fruit and veg – i am worried about the sugars, but for this (hopefully) short term period, I feel the nutrients will benefit me more than the harm the additional sugar will do.

I’m trying to save my milk (lactose free) so am substituting my morning milk for more cheese – again, this is not ideal, one: it doesn’t give me much variety in my dairy, two: cheese is fattening! but we are sticking to match box size portions. At least I’m getting my dairy.

We’re sticking to healthier options where we can, so lean meats, lightly dusted fish, oven cooked rather than fried.

And I have managed not to eat loads of crisps, despite them turning up in the cupboard!

So, at least we’re able to get something fairly right under the circumstances πŸ˜€

Here’s a snapshot of foods eaten since my last post…

Steak with oven cooked spuds and mushrooms
Salmon with oven cooked spuds, baby corn, mange tout and oven cooked spuds
oven cooked chicken, roast spuds, cauliflower and broccoli
lightly coated fish, oven cooked chips and onion rings
left over spag bol for a lunch
Cheese on toast for a lunch
lunch time jacket spud with cheese and beans and a bit of spread
Remnants of another spag bol used for a jacket potato lunch

So there have been some crisps and biscuits, plus the occassional square of dark choc, so nowhere near perfect, but we are still buying and eating sensibly where we can.

That’s it from me for now, all being well I’ll be able to update you this evening and then from tomorrow evening onwards.

In the meantime fair folk, stay safe, stay well.

Bye for now.

  1. Good to hear that your mum has come out of the other side, Happy Birthday to her.
A bit of time off it all for you isn’t a bad thing….it’ll help you refocus, the last week or so have been so strange.
By the way your fitness levels won’t fall as much as you think…..I did the London Moonwalk in 2018, I did train for that, but since then I’ve hardly done any walking. Since then I’ve done 2 or 3 10-11 mile walks easily with no training whatsoever and still going the same 3.1mph I did in London…..I don’t think I could walk a marathon without a few long training walks, but it’s easy to do a half marathon.
    You’ll get there. xx

  2. Some of those choices don’t look healthy, but this is your journey not mine. Honestly though that steak is huge. Good to hear that mum pulled thru though, that is great news and sorry your moods are off but i fear we shall all be off during these uncertain times. Good to hear from you anyways Jo πŸ™‚
