A snapshot – why we can’t out exercise out a bad diet!

Not that I would wish to exercise my way thin…. I’m waaaaay too lazy!

But thought I would share Paul’s recent statistics on an app he has. It’s really quite fascinating, so thought I would share.

  • Days using Health (the app): 146
  • Steps: 1,008,633 (impressive)
  • Calories burned: 47,761 (even more impressive!)
  • Distance: 906km (OMG – he walked and jogged that?)
  • Approx 21.5 marathons (I mean, I like watching the runs)

How about that for some incredible stats!!! Go Paul – amazing, considering this has only been since May!

Over 1,000,000 steps in 146 days!

Now for the shocker – All that hard work is equivalent to 87 egg and bacon baps… and that’s without sauce!

Most of us know it’s around an 80% healthy food /20% exercise split to try and achieve our healthy lifestyle goals, but I just couldn’t get my head around the fact that we can walk for well over a million steps, but that if I had an egg and bacon bap every other day, there would be no weight loss for all that effort!

A good point though, if eating healthily and nutritionally, apparently 3,500 calories is the equivalent to 1lb of weight loss (there is some dispute on this), so with good food and the steps, the step count part of weight loss would be over 13lb! Unfortunately, I can’t use Paul to demonstrate this, as until only a few weeks ago, he was only ever on a healthy eating programme when I had my beady eye on him!

I would love to know your comparisons, please do comment 🙂

6th Oct 2019 – as expected, weight gain, and full on weekend!

Hey all, hope you are well.

As expected I’ve had a weight gain.. 4lb. But as you will know, my food and exercise hasn’t been up to scratch, and it is that time of the month as well. So total loss so far is 13lb.  Below is the print out.

You may have read posts of mine in the past where I’ve mentioned my daughter is dealing with depression and anxiety, well yesterday she said she wanted to go to town. This is huge for Amy, so obviously off we went!

We had brekkie in town, omelette and juice. I did eat the hash browns!

Then, a rare occurrence, both Amy and Katie were free last night, so we could have a family card night!

We had dinner of pork chops, spuds and cauliflower, but alcohol, crisps and roasted nuts were enjoyed later in the evening.

Today we visited with Paul’s family, and knew we wouldn’t be eating til we got home tonight, so we had a late brekkie of healthier fry up.

Then for dinner, healthier fish with spuds and sprouts.

And we’ve got fruit with Greek yoghurt for supper.

I’ve burned my thumb, and it’s hurting like crazy at the moment! So the next pics aren’t weird cocktails, they my icy waters 🤣

While cooking dinner, Paul and I also got a couple of days worth of packed lunches sorted, so salads, nuts and fruits are made, tubbed up and ready to go!

And what will I be doing going forward? EVERYTHING 🤣

Yep, exercises start properly again (hopefully) tomorrow morning.

Healthy eating will be spot on.

Water will pass my lips.

And you know, I’ve felt a bit lethargic this weekend, I wonder if that’s got anything to do with my lack of usual nutritional food and exercise? Maybe.

Or maybe it’s just melt down week!

So good luck to you all on your journeys this coming week 🤗

Until tomorrow, night.

4th Oct 2019 – ok, pleased with today!

Firstly, thank you for your comments while I had my mini meltdown, you helped me find my resolve again – you’re STARS ⭐

Today has been a good day, and I feel my mojo is back! I’m well aware tomorrows weigh-in is gonna be rubbish, but I’m prepared for it, can’t really expect anything else!

I haven’t had dairy today, although I will be having Greek yoghurt later, it’s all ready for me in the fridge. I haven’t had a great variety of fruit and veg either, but I have had 4 portions, thanks to a small glass of Apple juice.

But I have made healthier choices during the day. So I’m pleased. If interested in daytime food, please see previous two posts. I have also had 1.1l water, 1 tea, 1 diet Pepsi and 200 ml of Apple juice.

I wasn’t particularly hungry this evening, so I had salmon, broccoli (fresh but old) and two small spuds. I overloaded my plate with broccoli for no other reason than it’s either eaten or binned. I didn’t eat it all.

There’ll be a couple more tablets shortly, and I’m going to try to get another 0.5l water down.

So, that’s me for today. Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

Until tomorrow, tata.

Healthy lunch!

Ok, feeling more confident that I’m getting back on track.

I’ve had another 0.5l water and another 300ml on the go.

Had a healthier lunch than I could have, jacket with prawn and mari rose sauce and side salad. And a diet Pepsi.

Almost forgot to take a pic!

I very nearly ordered what my gorgeous sister ordered! I might have nicked a chip!

She’s always swearing at me 🤣. Brie and bacon baguette and chips!

Glad I did exercises this morning, hurting quite a lot at the moment, and not sure I would have been able to do them later in the day.

It’s time to break out the codeine! I’m gonna have to get back to the doc I think for my prescription strength codeine. But then it’s been a long time since I’ve needed codeine, so I’ll see how I am next month before i go down that route.

Anyway, now I’m feeling settled and back to wanting to keep up with healthy lifestyle change, I’ll get back to posting once a day.

Bye for now 🤗

Determined exercises!

Got up, made damn sure I exercised!

Started with the stretches, went on to the strength programme, did the quick cardio, then tried beginner Zumba!

It’s fair to say, although good fun, I blatantly have absolutely NO rythym 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Would also advise wearing clothes, I thought, I’m gonna get sweaty, only me around, pair of undies will do! Well, not to much inconvenience really, except bits slapping against other bits! Oh, and we have a glass fronted fire which reflects! Am I really THAT fat 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Anyway 0.5l water down, 53mins exercise down, nuts about to be eaten!

A good start to the day! I WILL be my own friend, rather than my enemy! Yes, there are gonna be glitches (lunch today might be one) I need to remember this is a long haul change for life, and providing I’m doing well on the whole, not to sweat the small stuff!

So, onwarda and upwards. 👍

3rd Oct 2019 – oh dear!

Hi all, hope you’ve had or are having a good day 😊

Today… hmmmm….

Ok, so my niece came round today, it’s a rare treat. She popped round to give me my birthday pressie just in case I don’t see her before my birthday.

We got take away, and no chance for exercise, because of time and because I’m in more pain than usual on the run up to meltdown week. And my coccyx is killing me!

So, to business…

Food – daytime food spot on. It was my usual, although I forgot my banana again.

Dinner was burger and chips. I only ate a handful of chips, but the burger was so big I was stuffed quickly, so a handful of chips is not something to be proud of.

I have not popped a picture here as that’s not fair to anyone who might be hankering after one.

Exercise – I did do stretches this morning, but nothing tonight.

Fluid – 200ml milk, 0.5l water, several teas, 1 Pepsi max, 1 full fat Dr pepper.

Hmmmm…. not a good day.

Our foraging day has been deferred to spring, but I still have tomorrow off.

And I’ll be going to lunch tomorrow with my mum, sister and daughter. Don’t know where, all I can hope is that there is something tasty and healthy on the menu.

I’m in two minds at the moment, do I give this week up as a bad joke, or do I do as much damage limitation as possible? Either way, I expect the scales to be bad, both on weight and fat measurements.

And there will be birthday cake next week.

I will try for damage limitation.

I will remember as per Monique’s husband, this is a marathon and not a sprint.

I will not be angry with myself or negative.

I will understand I can get back on track!

So, that’s where I am, floundering a little in negativity, and desperately trying to know, really know that right now is a few shitty hormones and bad choices, and that I’ll be back to normal in a couple of days or about a week! This moment does NOT define my lifestyle change!

Does it sound as if I’m desperately trying to convince myself?

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be feeling less painful and less grumpy.

If you’ve managed to read this far, I’m sorry for the rather gloomy post, and thank you 😊

Good night

2nd Oct 2019 – good food day, some exercise and emergency housework!

Evening all, hope this post finds you well.

Got a message from Paul before he left work to let me know our eldest niece is coming round tomorrow, so it’s gonna be a takeaway. I’ll have to try and order the least bad thing going.

What our nieces visit also means is that I’ll need to do a quick tidy up and hoover. That’s fine, half hour, done.

However….

When Paul actually got home, he informed me how my birthday present day (which us next week) in two days time is going to play out… and as soon as he told me I went into OMG frantic mode!

So, Paul has bought me a fabulous present which takes place this Friday! I’m going foraging with an expert!!! Now, I can not wait for this, this is something right up my street! Paul has, yet again, thought of something perfect, a full day out walking in the country, and feeding my inner cave girl 😊.

So what’s the problem? You might ask, the problem is this, the chap is then coming back to our home to show us how to cook with our foragings! OMG you know when you haven’t done housework properly for a while, surface cleans only? That, I’m ashamed to say, has been me over the last couple of weeks!

Well… that was it… dinner downed then on to full on housework, I mean, top to bottom, sides scrubbed and disinfected, floors hoovered, swept and mopped to within an inch! Can the loo porcelain shine any more brightly? And the pile of clothes now put away!

Worn out!

Anyway, it’s done now, I can allow this stranger to use my kitchen now, I’ll even allow him to use the bog! 🤣

So that was my last couple of hours, now on to business.

Food – 28g nuts, 160g fruit including pineapple, strawberries and grapes, salad for lunch, banana and hard boiled egg in the afternoon.

Dinner was oven spuds, oven peppers, mushroom and onions, chicken fillet in Maggie sheet.

Fluid – 200ml milk, 1l water, 1 squash (sugar free) with diet lemonade, 1 cup of tea.

Exercise – only stretches today at lunch time (working from home), had planned to do cardio or strength tonight, but housework took over.

There will be yoghurt with seeds and honey later, and another water.

Hope I can have discipline tomorrow night with take away, I’ve done it before when we went round to my sister in law, I know I can do it. Maybe I should save my salad to have with a piece of chicken or a slice of pizza. Let’s face it, I won’t starve if I don’t have my salad at lunch time!

Anyway, enough from me for today 😁

Night!

I’m back! Time to get back on track!

Good morning all.

Couple of things I want to cover in this post, so here we go.

Yesterday – started amazingly well and finished catastrophically!

After packing and tidying up the cottage, Dan and Lynne headed home to Scotland. We have agreed to revisit the cottage and catch up again mid year next year. More on that soon.

Paul and I didn’t get a chance to do much walking as this weekend was all about meeting up with friends. We did however go for a walk before we headed home, as there’s a lovely waterfall we wanted to revisit.

It was less than two miles, but is really interesting physically.

Then we had something to eat, I opted for a cheese and beans jacket spud.

Our way home was pretty awful, several hours of driving in extreme rain! We made one stop at which point I had a pastry.

When we eventually got home we ordered pizza.

Bed was most welcome last night!

Today is all about relaxing and getting ready for getting back on track, so we’ll get a weekly shopping at some point and prepare lunches.

Long Term Goal – I have decided that although I enjoyed the train trip up Snowdon, what I really want to do is walk up it! So, that gives me approximately 9 months to get fit and healthy enough to do it.

Short Term Goal – so, taking small chunks out of what I need to achieve, I am aiming to lose two stone in the next 12 weeks… Again, it’s a huge ask of myself, and I doubt I’ll hit it, but I need to aim high to keep myself on track.

I’ll actually be really pleased to lose another stone by Christmas, but I know what I’m like, if I have a great week and lose several lbs I’ll become complacent the following week!

As for exercise, I’m going to aim for the following; stretching youtube video once a day, and when I can sit cross legged I’ll have another go at yoga. Although stretching is a new addition to my exercising, I had already noticed that they had helped me doing my lunges in the strength training bit if my exercises.

I’m going to continue with both strength training routines, and I hope to be able to do the advanced one fully by the end of 12 weeks, in the meantime I’ll substitute the harder bits for easier exercises, giving the harder bits a go once a week.

I will continue to do the cardio programme I found last week, it’s a great sweaty programme, and I really enjoy the feeling of working my backside off!

Cardio and strength training will be done on alternate days, aiming for 6 days a week.

I’ll be bringing myself up to date with news from you guys over the next few days 😊. Feels as though it’s been way longer than a few days!

So that’s it from me for now.

Bye 👋

Steam train up to a very cold and windy Snowdon summit!

Hey all, hope you are well!

Today was an early start, we took the steam train up Snowdon, it was a great experience as we all enjoyed being in the train, but the mist came in so for the most part the views were hidden.

We did think about going to the summit, but that would be by foot, and the freezing rain was like shards of ice coming at us horizontally! The wind was ferocious!

When our train trip ended we came straight back to the cottage to a hot cuppa, change of clothes and a fire!

We had healthy beans on toast for breakfast, and sausage sarnie for lunch.

Paul’s doing bragioli for dinner later tonight! Can’t wait! This is a Maltese dish (Paul’s dad is Maltese), and I have to say, Paul’s is nicer than any I’ve had in Malta!

There will probably be alcohol again tonight 🤣

Paul, Dan and Lynne are all having a holiday afternoon nap, and I’m enjoying solitude, the fire, a rocking chair, and the view!

This weekend is wonderful, however I am looking forward to my bed and getting back into our food regime.

I’m also looking forward to catching up with all your blogs 😊

Bye for now.
