We have just said goodbye to Paul’s parents as well as Amy and Katie.
It’s Katie’s birthday in a few days and Gwen wanted to see the girls as it’s been so long.
This morning Paul and I had fruit and nuts for breakfast, knowing the day was gonna be full on, until family arrived and we’d finished preparing all foods.
It did the job, no hunger pangs getting in the way of necessary work.
So, shopping, home, greek salad and fruit salad prepared, burger mix prepped yesterday shaped into patties, alcohol free punch made (though Gwen and I may have slipped a bit of rum in a couple of ours 😁), cheeses, chutneys sorted, cakes and flapjacks presented, KFC style chicken cooked in oven, burgers and turkey sausages barbecued. Actually, would have been much easier to give a pic!
Lots of unhealthy foods, but lots of healthy or healthier foods too, life has still to be lived, balance is key.
We all ate well, Katie appreciated the banana loaf cupcakes, especially as in one we stuck in a couple of candles 😀
Remaining foods have been doggy bagged out to both households. Interestingly, nobody touched the crisps, for adult only gatherings I shall remember not to buy any.
The day was mostly warm if a bit blustery at times, but we all liked being outside. It did start to rain for a while so then we relaxed inside.
It was lovely catching up, not so much me and Paul because we’re in contact with both households, but for the girls and Amy’s grandparents.
No difference this morning, possible contributions, other than sarnies, I was (force fed 😁) crisps last night, also had more Pepsi max than water during day.
Today has been a drizzly kind of day, just the kind of day for either snuggling into blankets or getting the housework done… my home us now clean and tidy again!
We started pretty much the same way as the most of the week, I had a nice lie in after a relatively decent nights sleep, then a nice cup of tea. No biscuits today though… I’ve eaten them all during the previous days 🤣
Paul made us porridge for breakfast, I add honey to mine. It was only after I finished that I thought about a pic, Paul did suggest I take a pic of my empty bowl, but pointless really!
Then I got on with a top to bottom on housework (still need to polish our bedroom though), and Paul went out to pick up some bits.
When Paul got back I prepared lunch – we had nice seedy brown bread sarnies with, you get one guess! Yep, cured meats and cheeses!
Then it was on to other things. It’s Katie’s birthday in a couple of days, Paul’s parents are coming round tomorrow to see her, so we’ve been prepping stuff ready.
I’ve made lamb burger mix, just needs shaping and popping on bbq, I’ve also made a couple of focaccias.
Paul’s made flapjacks, and is now making banana cupcakes (an experiment as he usually does a loaf). Katie will be happy, she’s a fan of cupcakes and Paul’s banana loaf. We’ll stick a birthday candle in hers 😁
He’s also put up a new light in the garden, motion sensored, so for summer evenings we’ll get to flap our arms 😁
It was nice both of us working in the kitchen together, albeit (and probably for the best) on different foods.
After the focaccias were out of the oven, I got on with dinner. Lightly dusted fish and oven cooked chips. Should have done veggies, just too lazy today!
We haven’t had our deciding match for super scrabble, that may need to wait for next weekend now.
So there we have it, my day. Didn’t get to the garden centre, that’ll have to be Sunday morning now, loads to do tomorrow, including greek salad, as requested by Amy.
Writing slightly out of sync, this post is for 11th (yesterday), but as I’m now hoping to include a graph every morning, which is to be compared with previous days food, I decided not to do a two day post tonight!
So, let’s get on with the day…
Nice lay in again, up about 10am. This followed a decent night sleep, up only 3 or 4 times.
Tea and 4 biscuits, followed by dried fruits and natural nuts about midday.
Paul suggested a game if scrabble… out came super scrabble! 1 game won each, gonna suggest decider later today. For any scrabble fans, I love the super scrabble game – I even manage to get on the quadruple word sometimes 🤣
This took several hours.
We had lunch after the first game, brown seedy bread with cheeses and cured meats I thought we had finished the day before!
My delivery of garden herb seeds arrived during game two, I’ve never grown anything but weeds before so I’m quite nervous, but now our garden is looking neater we’re hoping to grow herbs and next year veggies too!
Reading the sachets I need a humus rather than compost, so after game two we headed to garden centre. However, we went too late so I didn’t have time to really look and ask for help. We’re going back today.
Sorted out dinner when we got back. Chicken thigh in Maggie bag with onion, pepper and mushrooms with oven cooked garlicky herby spuds.
Watched several episodes of a programme we’ve never heard of, and almost resisted crisps!
Instead of the big packet of healthier crisps, we had a packet of Lilly’s pom bear crisps (69 calories) so that’s slightly better.
Sending this a day late. It’s day zero, here’s my graph, my motivation, your info, hoping to post this every morning so can be compared with how well or not reported on previous evenings post!
What a wonderfully lazy day we’ve had today, literally the most strenuous thing I’ve done is make dinner!
And I feel GREAT for it!
So, here’s how my day panned out…
Awake at 7, asleep again by 8ish, awake by 10ish.
Cup of tea with four biscuits.
Couple of hours later, seedy sarnies using up the rest of the cured meats and cheeses.
Delivery of easle to help Lilly with her numbers and letters when she’s back with us next week. And obviously, chalk board and white board for both kids to scribble on just for fun!
It is an a frame double sided easel, just flat until they’re here.
Shower, lazy afternoon, cook dinner.
No hidden veggies!
So spag bolognese (5% fat) with no hidden veggies!!!! I say this because for the last few weeks I’ve had to blend veggies so no kids can tell they’re eating mushrooms, onions, peppers, and anything else I fancy, such as curly kale! And of course, as far as Sofia is concerned there has been no garlic at all in her meals 🤣
So today, my veggies have been LOUD AND PROUD!
Now I’m writing up my blog, feeling utterly chilled, and contemplating eating the crisps which have so far escaped my mouth! I’ll be honest, those crisps are gonna be eaten tonight!
I’m thinking that I’ve been on my own personal healthy challenge for nearly a year. I would love to say that I’ve managed to lose 3 stone at that point. Hopefully I’ll be able to weigh myself on Boots scales, and with a bit of discipline, hopefully the readout will say 13 stone 13lb! That would mean 3 stone gone!
I believe, my home scales will need to read 13stone 10lb, so I need to lose 6lb from now until 11th July. It’s a big ask, considering it’s taken me since March to now to lose 8lb, but I’m sure I can do it, I just need to keep focused.
To help me with this, I’m going to weigh every morning and create a graph for it. I’ll post this every day (when we don’t have kids). I won’t have a big write up with it, but I think I need to do this for motivation and accountability. And if anyone’s interested you’ll be able to read following days post to see if there’s any correlation between my actions and the scales 🙂
Paul and I had decided to go to the east coast today.
I needed to feel emptiness. I needed to be surrounded by space.
So we went to Skegness, used the loo, very, very socially sensibly, then went for a walk along the front. It was nice, too many people though. So we had lunch then drove to a nature reserve called Gibraltar Point. Now, that was peaceful! We ambled along, just soaking up the space, sun and each other. It was soooo lovely! Obviously, my body being what it is, I needed the loo after a couple of hours, and as the facilities at the reserve are closed, we had to drive back to Skegness beach for the loo, then came home.
We walked into the lovely smell of Paul’s slow cooker curry… Delish!
The only downside to today is the bloated feeling since our packed lunch, quite uncomfortable. This bloated feeling is still with me now. Thankfully, this has been a minor irritation, not enough to put a dampner on my glorious day!
Here are some pics.

One of the greatest gifts in life is to be able to appreciate surroundings. It was wonderful just standing and listening to birds and insects, and watching the birds dart around.
To the business of the day…
We started with beans on white toast
Had half a cheese and chutney sarnie and half a blue cheese and cured meat sarnie each. The bread was seedy, and we had olive spread on it. A scotch egg each, a healthier choc mousse each and some dried fruits and nuts. I had also picked up a mini sausage roll each for today, but we didn’t eat it. We took my new favourite water, sainsbury’s own still strawberry and kiwi!
Dinner was healthier lamb curry, I had half the bread and about two thirds of the rice. I think I could have, and should have left more, considering how bloated I feel!
So that’s my day, a day of tranquility and peacefulness.
Today has been a great day, we went on a good walk, just over 5k in 74 minutes!
And food was good too!
For breakfast we had 5 bean baked beans on toast. White bread not brown seedy, but still.
For dinner we had salmon with brown rice, with peas and sweetcorn added in.
Then we had strawberries, there was a teaspoon of sugar, but it was halfspoon, not full fat sugar.
I am pleased with today, the first truly good day in a long time 😊
I wasn’t sure if I would get my bum in gear for a walk today, luckily mum in law helped out there. We had a call from her mid morning as she had problems printing out the work for Sofia, so we had to have breakfast and head over to hers. This made my mind up for me. After helping Gwen Paul and I went to a lake local to her home for our walk.
When we headed back into our town we did our weekly shop, and having decided we’re going to the coast for a walk tomorrow, we picked up some goodies too.
I’ve prepared sarnies for tomorrow, one cheddar and chutney and one creamy blue cheese with cured meats. Not the healthiest, but made with healthier brown, seedy bread and olive spread rather than butter. We’ve also picked up a scotch egg and pork pie each, but we’re also taking natural nuts and dried fruits. Oh, and a light chocolate mousse each! For drinks we’re taking some water.
I’m really looking forward to tomorrow, there is something very special about looking out into empty vastness. Makes me feel very small and insignificant, but in a good way. It’s good to know that in the grand scheme of things, any personal issues mean absolutely nothing.
So there we are, that’s my day. I’m looking forward to posting tomorrow, hopefully I’ll have some nice pics for you 😀
